Did you know that as many as 49 percent of women stay in abusive situations out of concern for the pets' safety? Another alarming fact: "Before 2013, none of New York City's 50 emergency domestic violence shelters offered refuge to families with pets." Thankfully, an encouraging co-sheltering initiative has been launched by the Urban Resource Institute (URI) in New York to address this issue called People and Animals Living Safely.  READ MORE
